Rod Notes and Glossary

Cafe rods
  1. Available in brass and enamel
  2. Used for hand-drawn window treatments or tie-tab curtains and drapery
  3. Commonly used:
    + Rod Pocket valance or panel for doors, windows with pocket 1.5".
    + With clip rings

 

Clearance - Distance from the wall to the back side of the rod.

Curtain Rod

  1. Rod pocket: 1.5" (will take up: 3/8").
  2. Projects available: 1.5", 2.5", 3.5", 5.5"
  3. Available in enamel
  4. Graber Rods:
    + Inside mount & Outside mount available.
    + Thickness: 3/8", Deep: 3/4"
    + The "Lock Seam" Curtain Rods are coated inside and out, with no exposed edges and baked-on off- white enamel finish. The "Lock Seam" design gives the curtain rod that additional strength needed for medium to heavy curtain fabrics. Threader attached to rod assures smooth, no-snag shirring.

     
  5. Rod for Bay window available

    + The curtain can not be opened and closed because the supports get in the way.

  7. Commonly used: May be used for shirred panels or valance; need rod pocket 1.5" for doors, windows. May also be used for pinch-pleated valances or stationary panels
Curtain Corner Rod #6418-025 - Installation instructions

Items include in the package: 4 rod sections (2 curve rods and 2 straight rods with hole end), 2 end brackets, 1 corner hook support and 2 plastic
sleeves.

  1. Install the end brackets on your window where you want the rod to end.
    The corner support screws right in the corner, at the same height as the bottom screw hole for the end bracket, with the prongs pointing up.
  2. Slip the curved rod section thru the straight rod section:
    +  the curve rod on left side has the straight rod section with holes on the right side towards the corner.
    +  the curve rod on right side has the straight rod section with holes on the left side towards the corner
  3. Slip the protective sleeves over the inner/outer rod section till it fits snugly, will protect your curtain when shirring on the rod.
  4. Hook the curved end of the rod on the bracket, and drop the hole end of the rod on the pronged corner support.

Curtain Rods 2 1/2" Wide

  1. Rod pocket: 3 1/2" for 2 1/2" wide rod (will take up: 3/8")
  2. Inside mount and outside mount available
  3. Rod for Bay window available
  4. Commonly used: Rod pocket valance or panel for doors, windows

Curtain Rods 4 1/2" Wide

  1. Rod pocket: 5 1/2" for 4 1/2" wide rod (will take up: 3/8")
  2. Graber brand - 4 1/2" Dauphine Rod:
    + Original package - outside mount with Projects: 3 1/2" - 6". Clearance: 3 - 5 1/2".
    + The Dauphine Rods are coated inside and out, and baked-on off - white enamel finish. Dauphine valance Rods feature patented snap-in bracket design for easy  installation. Threader cap provided for easy, no-snag shirring of fabric
  3. Inside mount available with additional bracket.
  4. Commonly used: Rod pocket valance or panel for doors, windows

Projection - Distance from the wall to the front of the rod

Sash rods

  1. Rod pocket: 1.5" (will take up: 3/8")
  2. Projects: ½ " (Distance from the wall to the front of the rod).
  3. Graber enamel Rods:
    + Inside mount & Outside mount available.
    + Thickness: 3/8", Deep: 3/4"
  4. Kirsch enamel Rods: Outside mount only
  5. Available in brass
  6. Still need the support in the middle if the rod too wide or the curtain is heavy
  7. Keep the curtain taunt and from blowing out when door is opened.
  8. Commonly used: Rod Pocket valance or panel for doors, basements windows, garage windows.

Spring Tension or pressure rods - Oval

  1. Rod pocket: 1.5" (will take up: 3/8")
  2. Graber Rods:
    + Inside mount available.
    + Thickness: 5/8", Deep: 3/4"

     
  3. Are held in place by the pressure of a spring and lockstop screw inside the rod
  4. Commonly used: Rod Pocket valance or panel for windows (entry, over sink, basement, garage, etc.)

Spring Tension rods - 2 1/2" Wide

  1. Rod pocket: 3.5" (will take up: 3/8")
  2. Inside mount only
  3. Commonly used: Rod Pocket valance or panel for windows, over bathtub
Take up - Distance the drapery is shortened when shirred thru a rod pocket. (equal to thickness of rod)

Traverse Rod Center Draw (or Two Way Draw), One Way Right Draw, One Way Left Draw

  1. Wall mount or Ceiling mount available
  2. Center Draw (or Two Way Draw):
    + Two panel of draperies will be used, designed to drawn at a center.
    + Cord at Right side when opening and draperies stack back Right and Left Side (one panel each).
  3. One Way Left Draw:
     

    One Way Left Draw Traverse Rod

    + one panel of draperies will be used, designed to drawn One-way Left only.
    + Cord and draperies stack back at Left side when opening.

  4. One Way Right Draw:
     

    One Way Right Draw Traverse Rod

    + one panel of draperies will be used, designed to drawn One-way Right only.
    + Cord and draperies stack back at Right side when opening.

  5. Commonly used: Pinch pleated valance or panel for windows, patio doors
